My new stove smells when I light it, why?
If you are experiencing a strong smell and possibly even a light smog coming off your new stove, don’t worry it isn’t permanent, and it’s easily solved. The cause of the smell is the stove paint. Your stove is painted with high-temperature paint designed to not only make the stove look smart but to help protect against rust, etc. The paint does not become wear-resistant until it has been fully cured. To do this the stove has to get to a high temperature only achieved through burning it.
To overcome this issue quickly you need to light the fire and allow it to burn very hot for the first few uses allowing the paint to harden. You may wish to crack a window for ventilation on the first few burns.
